Tang Hall, home to approximately 274 single graduate students and 130 undergraduates, has never had a housemaster or faculty resident, but that is about to change. The Office of Residence Life and Student Life Programs (RLSLP) is actively recruiting faculty members interested in the position.
Housemasters typically work with student leaders to organize social activities and programs and advise individual students. They also represent their houses within the Institute. "They build community, help keep the peace, give advice and have fun," said Carol Orme-Johnson, assistant dean in RLSLP.
The new housemaster will be able to craft a position to match his/her needs within these broad parameters. The faculty resident and family will live in the 24th-floor apartment. Anyone who is interested should contact Dean Orme-Johnson at x8-8423 or carolorm@mit.edu. Preference is given to tenured faculty.
