IS&T's limited support for Windows Phone 7 includes help setting up MIT Exchange and MIT IMAP, connecting to MIT SECURE Wi-Fi networks, and setting a device passcode. Windows Phone 7 supports the synchronization of Exchange email, calendar, contacts and — with the latest Windows Phone 7.5 update — Tasks. Syncing of Exchange Notes and Memos is not available at this time.
Microsoft does provide local sync utilities — Zune Software for PC and Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac — that enable you to back up and restore your device and synchronize music, video, pictures and other related media.
Windows Phone 7 setup instructions can be found in the Mobile Ninja in the Hermes knowledge base.
Ending support for Windows Mobile
Effective Feb. 29, 2012, IS&T will end support for the Windows Mobile platform, which includes Windows Mobile 6.5 and earlier. None of the four major carriers are selling devices running Window Mobile, with the exception of the special-order Motorola ES400S via Sprint. Carriers are recommending that users transition to alternative mobile platforms such as Microsoft's Windows Phone 7, Apple's iOS or Google's Android.
To better support MIT's mobile device users, IS&T must stay current with developments in the mobile landscape and end support for discontinued mobile platforms. If you need help choosing a new mobile device, take advantage of resources such as the Mobile Device Platform Matrix, which compares each of the major mobile platforms and what MIT services they support.
