MIT's community gardens, a pilot program spearheaded by MIT Police Sgt. Cheryl Vossmer and Libraries Administrative Assistant and Public Service Support Associate Ryan Gray, has taken bloom on the roof of the West Garage, seen here, and along the side of the Albany Street garage.

In the program's inaugural year, 32 community members participated with approximately 55 plots — each consisting of one EarthBox, a low-cost, compact and water-efficient growing container about the size of a large suitcase. Despite a large amount of rain this summer, the gardeners have already harvested crops including tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, herbs and more.
