MIT's First Freedom Banquet/Seder Explores Aspects of Freedom and Justice

CAMBRIDGE, MA-In the spirit of Passover, the holiday celebrating Jewish liberation from Egypt, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Hillel and Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity will host MIT's first-ever Freedom Banquet and Seder, featuring a diverse array of speakers who will discuss issues of freedom and liberty that are close to their own experiences. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 16 from 5:30-8pm in MIT's Ashdown House (305 Memorial Drive, at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue).

The speakers and their scheduled topics are:

  • Judy F. Jackson, MIT's ombudsperson- Freedom from racism.
  • Rev. Jane Gould, Episcopal minister at MIT-Women's rights at home and abroad.
  • Professor Robert A. Weinberg, MIT professor of biology and a founding member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research-"Freedom From Our Genes."
  • Kim Mancuso, artistic director of the Pilgrim Theater group and an MIT instructor in theater arts-Performing selections from her work, "Letters to Sarajevo."
  • ������������������Edward Khokhlovich, an MIT graduate student in civil and environmental engineering who grew up in the former Soviet Union-The freedom to be Jewish in spite of oppression.

The event will also feature a festive meal, music, and traditional and modern readings.
