MIT's Killian Hall will be the site of readings by authors who were originally scheduled to appear at the fire-damaged Waterstone's bookstore in Boston.
The change in venue came about with the help of David Ferriero, the Libraries' associate director of public services who has been a frequent attendee at past Waterstone's readings and a friend of promotions manager Chris Wooster. "When the fire happened, I gave him a call and offered him any space he needed at MIT," Mr. Ferriero said.
The MIT events begin Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:30pm with Benjamin Bradlee, editor of the Washington Post during the Watergate years, reading from his new autobiography, A Good Life. He will be introduced by Matthew Storin, editor in chief of The Boston Globe.
Other speakers at MIT will be:
October 6, 7pm--Witold Rybczynski, reading from City Life.
October 11, 7:30pm--Carolyn Heilbrun, reading from her new biography of Gloria Steinem.
October 16, 7:30pm--Lewis Nordan, reading from Sharpshooter Blues. Introduction by Jayne Anne Phillips, author of Shelter.
October 27, 7pm--Madison Smartt Bell, reading from All Souls' Rising, and Kevin Canty, reading from A Stranger in This World. They will be introduced by Jill McCorkle, author of Ferris Beach.
December 4, 7:30pm--John Dufresne, reading from Louisiana Power and Light.
"We're exceedingly grateful to MIT for this assistance," Mr. Wooster said. "MIT has been among our most vocal supporters during this period."
For more information on the readings, call Mr. Wooster at 859-8030.
