McCord headlines musical offerings

Jazz vocalist Semenya McCord returns to Kresge Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 9 to cap MIT's 27th annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Ms. McCord and associates will perform selections from the concerts of Duke Ellington, traditional and contemporary gospel, blues and jazz from 5:30-7pm. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Ms. McCord, who participated in MIT's MLK celebration from 1994-98, will perform with singers Wanetta Jackson and Byron Gibbs, dancer DeAma Battle, trumpeter-pianist George W. Russell and percussionist Herb King. Ms. McCord, Ms. Jackson, Mr. Gibbs and Mr. Russell also perform as the Ain't That Good News gospel quartet. Ms. McCord has been producing musical tributes to Dr. King for 19 years.

The MLK celebration also includes an artistic installation designed and created by 30 MIT and Wellesley College students. The display, entitled "Bear the Burden, Carry the Torch: You Are Part of a Continuous Struggle," will be on view in Lobby 10 from February 7-11.
