On Thursday, March 2 at 4pm, the Technology and Culture Forum will present "The Meaning of Human Identity" with speakers Sherry Turkle and Rodney Brooks.
Professor Turkle of the Program in Science, Technology and Society has written extensively on psychoanalysis and culture and on the "subjective side" of people's relationships with technology, especially computers. She is the author of The Second Self: Computers and the Human Spirit and Life on the Screen: Identity in the Age of the Internet.
"Roughly every 50 years humanity solves a great mystery of science. We have a chance to solve such a mystery now: 'How does the human mind work?'" said Professor Brooks, director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. He believes that if we can think imaginatively enough and turn that imagination into solid scientific theories and solid engineering demonstrations, we can meet this grand challenge.
The program will be held in Rm 34-101. All Technology and Culture Forum events are free and open to the public.
