The Technology and Culture Forum will host a lecture, "Rich Media, Poor Democracy: Communication Politics in Dubious Times," by Robert McChesney, research professor at the Institute of Communications Research and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois.
Professor McChesney's work focuses on the history and political economy of communication, with an emphasis on the role media play in democractic and capitalist societies. He is the author or editor of seven books, including the award-winning Telecommunications, Mass Media, and Democracy: The Battle for the Control of US Broadcasting, 1928-1935 (1993) and It's the Media, Stupid! (2000).
Christopher Lydon, host of National Public Radio's "The Connection," will moderate the forum, which will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9 in Bartos Theater at 5:30pm. A question-and-answer session will follow Professor McChesney's talk.
