In their first US tour, the Wu Wei ("path of eternal changes") Theater of Frankfurt, artists-in-residence at MIT on October 21 and 22, will present a trilingual (German/English/Chinese) production of Bertolt Brecht's The Good Woman of Szechuan tonight at 8pm in Killian Hall.
Two actors (Angelika Sieburg and Andreas Wellano) and a sparse set yield two dozen characters and startling vivid scenes in a spirited reinterpretation of Brecht's play about the proverbial prostitute with a heart of gold. Although the performers speak in German, in true Brechtian fashion, English and Chinese translators will serve as mediators between the action on stage and the audience.
Presented in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Brecht's birthday, the production is co-sponsored by the foreign languages and literatures section, MISTI-China, the Office of the Arts and the Goethe-Institute of Boston.
