Charles River Transportation Management Association (CRTMA) has expanded the shuttle service in the Kendall Square-Cambrideport-MIT area of Cambridge.
CRTMA has added a second shuttle and five new stops. The route will be expanded to include Fort Washington Park and University Park at MIT, with additional new flag stops at the corner of Pacific and Albany Sts., Massachusetts Ave. and Albany St., and at 345 Vassar St. In addition, the shuttle will now stop within walking distance of the Central Square MBTA station and Massachusetts Avenue businesses.
Phase II service provides more direct routing and better coverage of important Cambridge destinations for employees of participating organizations. Key benefits are a direct link between workplaces and public transportation, carless connections for businesses that have multiple Cambridge worksites, and easy employee access to local businesses for lunch and errands during the day.
The two vehicles will travel in opposite directions on the same route. Riders can tell the shuttle direction by name and sign color.
The "Riverside" shuttle (green window sign) begins at MBTA/Kendall Sq., travels along the MIT campus using Vassar St. and returns to Kendall Square with stops at Fort Washington, University Park and Theater/One Kendall Sq. This shuttle starts on the river side of the Grand Junction railroad.
Upon leaving MBTA/Kendall Square, the "Landward" shuttle (blue window sign) goes to Theater/One Kendall Sq., University Park and Fort Washington, then returns via Vassar St. along the MIT campus to MBTA Kendall Sq. This shuttle starts to the "landward" side of the Grand Junction.
The signs will have the CRTMA shuttle logo and the logos of participating companies in the window near the front door and in the back of the shuttle. Both vehicles will be painted white with royal blue trim, the colors of shuttle operator Paul Revere Transportation.
The CRTMA shuttle is privately funded, and use is restricted to employees of participating members. New participants for Phase II service are University Park at MIT and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, which join pilot project participants MIT, Millennium Pharamaceuticals, Cambridge Technology Partners, Crimson Tech and Modern Continental Companies.
