Registrar group seeks views

An Institute-wide committee has been formed to conduct a search for a new registrar to replace David Wiley, who stepped down at the end of the spring 1996 semester. Professor J.D. Nyhart of the Sloan School of Management is acting registrar.

The appointment of a new registrar will be made in an environment of rapid change at MIT and elsewhere. Electronic communication, the evolving diversity of the MIT community, and reengineering the Institute's administrative structure combine to set new challenges for the Registrar's Office. Consequently, the committee is seeking the views of the entire MIT community on the role of the registrar as MIT enters the 21st century.
