In many ways, MIT is the sum of its parts: 514 classrooms, 14,508 offices, 5,551 labs, and 1,319 restrooms in 157 buildings on 168 acres of land. But all of these spaces need to be maintained — cleaned, prepped, fixed, mowed, watered, and plowed — and none of that happens on its own. Rather, it's the dedicated people at MIT who keep it going at all hours and in all conditions.
This Labor Day, we salute the thousands of women and men within the Department of Facilities and elsewhere around MIT who keep the Institute running smoothly 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year — 366 on leap years! — in rain, snow, sunshine, or starlight. Thank you for all that you do.
