A thrilling victory for MIT football, and madness for the hoops teams

Students and other fans take in an upset win, Beaver Madness rally.
On a wet and rainy night, the MIT football team wrapped up the home portion of the 2012 football schedule and sent off its senior class in style as the Engineers scored with 35 seconds left to shock nationally ranked Salve Regina University, 20-19.

MIT was a definite underdog for this game. Salve Regina was ranked #24 in a national poll and came into the game carrying 13 wins in a row, the longest active winning streak in Division III football.

The game was played through a steady drizzle that soaked the players, the field and the spectators. Despite the slick conditions, MIT had just one turnover for the game.

Head coach Chad Martinovich gathered the team in the endzone to talk about the effort after the game was over. With the win, the Engineers improved their record to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the New England Football Conference.

MIT Athletics celebrated inside and out this past weekend. In its final home game of the season, the MIT football team shocked nationally ranked Salve Regina University. After the game, the men's and women's basketball teams drummed up excitement for their upcoming seasons at the Beaver Madness rally in Rockwell Cage.

Friday's game was also senior night for the football team, and the players honored their graduating teammates with a come-from-behind 20-19 win against previously undefeated Salve Regina University. A steady drizzle at Steinbrenner Stadium could not dampen the spirits of the team or deter the fans who packed the to cheer the Engineers on to victory.

After the game, the men's and women's basketball teams showcased their skills at Beaver Madness, an annual event to open the hoops season.
