Get ready, get set, get fit!

It's time again for getfit@mit! During this year's 12-week fitness challenge, which begins on Jan. 30, teams of five to eight members can log their exercise minutes on the getfit@mit website and work toward steadily increasing weekly exercise goals. In the process, participants may become eligible for weekly prize drawings and several end-of-challenge awards, participate in a number of special events and contests, and have fun competing with other getfit@mit teams for bragging rights. And every getfit@mit participant gets a free t-shirt.

Online registration for this year's challenge is available on the getfit@mit website from Monday, Jan. 9, through Thursday, Jan. 26. Participation is open to the entire MIT community, including students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and family members. More information about the challenge is available on the website.

A kick-off event for this year's challenge will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, from noon–1 p.m. in Lobby 10. Members of the getfit@mit organizing committee will be on hand to answer questions about registering, finding fitness options on and off campus, and staying in shape this winter. Visitors can enjoy refreshments, check out their fitness levels with some simple screening tests, and enter to win door prizes. The event is free and open to all members of the MIT community.

Participation in getfit@mit has grown every year since its inception in 2005. Last year, more than 3,000 people on 476 teams logged more than 8,300,000 minutes of exercise, and we're expecting this year's challenge to smash the 10-million-minute barrier.

getfit@mit is presented by MIT Medical, the MIT Health Plans, and Community Wellness at MIT Medical, with major sponsorship from MIT's Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) and the MIT Federal Credit Union. getfit@mit also receives generous support from other campus and community organizations.
