Fuller to lead interdisciplinary NEH summer seminar

"English Encounters with the Americas, 1550-1610" is a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) sponsored summer seminar for college professors to be held July 5-29 at MIT. The gathering, which will convene guest speakers from history of science, colonial history and archaeology, is only the second NEH seminar to be hosted at MIT, and the first in more than 20 years.

Led by Mary Fuller, professor of literature in MIT's School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, participants will explore primary sources on Anglo-American contact using evidence and methods from several disciplines. Sixteen applicants will be chosen to participate, and will receive a $3,300 stipend to help defray costs of travel, housing and meals. Application deadline is March 1.
