President Susan Hockfield and the Graduate Student Council invite all faculty, staff, and students to a Spring Break on Monday, May 10, 2010, from 3:30-5 p.m. on Killian Court. The 2010 Spring Break will celebrate the contributions to MIT by vice chancellor and dean for graduate students Steven Lerman, who leaves MIT at the end of June to take up his new post as provost of George Washington University.
Dean Lerman has been a part of the MIT community for more than 40 years, having come to campus as an undergraduate in 1969. In his career as professor, housemaster, dean, and vice chancellor, he has had a profound effect on the Institute: Project Athena, OpenCourseWare, the Singapore-MIT Alliance, the Center for Educational Computing Initiatives, and graduate education and student life all bear his mark of leadership.
The entire community is invited to Killian Court on Monday afternoon to wish Steve well and to thank him for the many years he has given in service to MIT.
