Hungry people on the east side of campus will have new dining options in the Stata Center starting this July.
The Forbes Family CafÃ© on Stata Center's first floor opened July 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will serve Starbucks coffee, prepared sandwiches and salads, pastries, snacks and sushi, according to Richard Berlin, director of campus dining.
By late August, a full lunch service will start on weekdays, including brick-oven pizza and other hot entrees, a deli, a sushi bar and more. Beginning Aug. 30, the cafÃ©'s hours will be extended to 10 p.m., with lunch service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Also in late August, the R and D Pub will open on the fourth and fifth floors of Stata to MIT community members and their guests. The pub will offer beer and wine as well as a typical pub grill menu of burgers and fries, grilled chicken sandwiches, pasta and salads. Regular hours will be 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. The pub will be available for events on weekends.
Other changes in east campus dining include the closing of Walker Memorial's venerable Morss Hall, which has been open only for lunch in recent years. Morss Hall is no longer serving meals on a daily basis, but will instead become a venue for banquets and meetings during business hours and in the evenings.
Pritchett Grill will remain open in the evenings on the second floor of Walker Memorial, serving a pub grill menu from 4 to 9 p.m. The faculty lunch program sponsored by the Provost's Office will move from Pritchett to a faculty lunch room area on the 4th floor of the Stata Center.
The MIT Activities Committee (MITAC) will also move from Walker Memorial to the Stata Center and become part of a second Information Center location (the primary location remains Room 7-121) on the first floor near the Gates Lobby.
