Retirees plan spring events

With the coming of spring, the MIT Retirees Association has announced two upcoming events of interest to senior members of the community.

A seminar aimed at answering retirees' questions about the new Roth IRAs is scheduled for Thursday, April 23 at 10am in the Bartos Theater (Rm E15-070). The speaker will be Diane Gipson, an MIT benefits couselor whose area of expertise is financial planning for -- and in -- retirement. The seminar will address criteria retirees can use in deciding whether or not to switch to a Roth IRA.

Ms. Gipson spent the majority of her career with The New England, where she specialized in the annuity, investment and pension divisions. She came to MIT in 1995 and is now supervisor of the Retirement Plan. She played a major role in the financial counseling of those who retired during the incentive offering in 1996.

The program is open to all interested members of the MIT community. Parking for retirees will be available in the CRA lot at Broadway and Ames St. (enter from Ames off Broadway).

A day-trip to Newport, RI, has been scheduled for Thursday, June 11. Highlights will include a sightseeing cruise in Newport Harbor, lunch at the Newport Harbor Hotel with shopping in the Brick Marketplace and a visit to Hammersmith Farms. The trip will depart from the CRA lot at 7:30am, returning at 6pm. The price is $46/person. To sign up, call Dotty Bowe at x3-7910.
