MDC paints crosswalks

Following the October 31 death of sophomore Michele S. Micheletti and the circulation of a petition to the MDC by Ceani Guevara '99 to establish a crosswalk at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Endicott Street, the MDC has painted 10 new crosswalks across Memorial Drive.

Ms. Micheletti was struck by two automobiles while crossing Memorial Drive and died that evening.

Ms. Guevara's petition, which garnered 400 signatures before it was sent to MDC Commissioner David B. Balfour Jr., called for a crosswalk on Memorial Drive between Baker House and Burton-Connor House. It also called for signs and lights alerting drivers to an upcoming pedestrian crosswalk, as well as a reminder sign that the speed limit is 30 miles per hour. Currently, no signs alert motorists to the new crosswalks.

In a related move, the Undergraduate Association has passed a resolution to research quickly the cost and feasibility of erecting a pedestrian walkway over Memorial Drive near the Pierce Boathouse.
