Awards and Honors

Professor Alan J. Grodzinsky and Dr. Michael D. Buschmann (MIT PhD '92) have received the 1995/1996 Best Paper Award of the Bioengineering Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The winning paper was chosen from all papers published in the ASME Journal of Biomechanical Engineering over a two-year period by a committee that includes all of the associate editors of the journal.

Entitled "A Molecular Model of Proteoglycan-Associated Electrostatic Forces in Cartilage Mechanics," the paper came out of Dr. Buschmann's thesis research with Dr. Grodzinsky, who is professor of electrical, mechanical and bioengineering in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. The award was presented November 21 at the annual winter meeting of the ASME.
