Six MIT faculty members have been selected by the National Science Foundation to receive 1994 NSF Young Investigator Awards.
The awards provide up to a maximum of $100,000 per year of public and private funds for five years to advance each awardee's teaching and research career. The NSF provides a $25,000 base award and up to $37,500 to match, dollar for dollar, support from private and nonprofit sources.
Out of 1,435 nominations, the NSF selected 197 scientists and engineers to receive the awards.
Those from MIT honored, all assistant professors, are: Gregory C. Fu of chemistry; M. Frans Kaashjoek of electrical engineering and computer science; Pawan Kumar of physics; Gregory C. Rutledge of chemical engineering; Charles C. Steidel of physics, and Mitchell D. Trott of electrical engineering and computer science.
