MIT comment on U.S. Attorney's decision against an appeal of the David LaMacchia case

MIT spokesman Kenneth D. Campbell today issued the following statement:

"The U.S. Attorney's office today concluded its legal case against MIT student David LaMacchia, saying that it would seek new legislation through the Justice Department and would not appeal the case.

"The policy of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is to await the conclusion of a legal case before it considers any internal disciplinary action.

"Under MIT's policies, the Institute will not disclose whether or not a disciplinary case has been brought against a specific student, nor will it disclose the conclusion of a specific case."
