NAFSA: Association of International Educators has announced that MIT’s flagship international education program, MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI), will receive the 2013 Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award.
According to NAFSA Executive Director and CEO Marlene M. Johnson, winners of the Simon Award are “excellent models for how higher education across the country can and must innovate to prepare our students for the global economy we live in today.” MISTI will also be profiled in "NAFSA’s Internationalizing the Campus: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities" this fall.
MISTI’s goal is to prepare students to become future global leaders. The program matches more than 550 students annually with internships, sends dozens of MIT students abroad to teach STEM classes, and facilitates international faculty research collaborations involving students.
Before their internships, MISTI students take classes in the language and culture of the country in which they will be placed. MISTI programs are free to all students.
