On Wednesday, Boston City Councilor John Connolly and the Boston City Council declared May 9, 2012 "Massachusetts Institute of Technology Men's Basketball Day" throughout the City of Boston.
The resolution honored the MIT Engineers' first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four, 29-2 record and second-straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship title, all accomplished while upholding the university's exceptionally high academic standards.
Connolly also honored the student athletes from the Roxbury-based No Books No Ball Basketball Program, a community action initiative that teaches children sportsmanship, athletic prowess and academic aptitude through teamwork, coaching and mentoring provided by volunteer role models. Connolly will present resolutions to student athletes from The Kings, Junior Division Champions (ages 10, 11 & 12) for the 2011-2012 season.
