On a one-night-only spectacle on Dec. 10, Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) Fellow John Malpede will “remix” texts — generated on MIT’s campus in 2009 — about the financial crisis. The event, in the new MIT Media Lab (E14, 75 Amherst St.) lobby at 7:30 p.m., will be performed in front of a two-story collapsing house of cards built and operated by MIT undergraduates from Wendy Jacob’s 4.301 Visual Arts class. The event provides glimpses of our possible financial futures, and Malpede promises a “100 percent nonthreatening participatory event” where the audience reads portions of MIT economist Simon Johnson’s article, “The Quiet Coup,” while the performers perform others. A video component of the installation was made by Mary Ellen Strom, Daniel Cevellos and Jim Rigler from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts with MIT’s Robert Oschorn.
