The annual Cambridge First Day celebration on June 8 at MIT honored four from the local hospitality industry who have contributed to Cambridge's community, culture and economy.
Established in 1993 by President Charles M. Vest, the event provides an opportunity for MIT and the City of Cambridge to honor outstanding representatives in the community and to showcase vital partnerships.
The event focuses on a different theme every year. Awards are presented to local individuals and organizations, and each honoree receives a $1,000 gift from MIT to be donated to a Cambridge-based organization of the recipient's choice.
This year's honorees are:
- Richard Carbone, general manager of the Inn at Harvard
- Edward N. Guleserian, president of the Sheraton Commander Hotel
- Stuart Meyerson, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Cambridge
- Rachael Solem, owner of Irving House at Harvard and Harding House
Previous themes of Cambridge First Day have included women- and minority-owned businesses (1994), biotechnology (1996), culinary achievement (1998), architecture (1999), the arts (2000), homeless services and programs (2002) and the environment (2003).
