The cost of parking a car on campus will increase next year by 11 percent, the Office of the Executive Vice President has announced.
This increase will mark the start of a multiyear program to eventually bring the parking benefit subsidy to the same level of other Institute benefits, in particular the medical plan.
The fee for a regular commuter parking permit for the 2003 academic year will be $466, an 11 percent rise over the current $420. The new rates for the other types of parking permits will be announced at the annual parking coordinator's luncheon on Friday, July 19. This information, along with parking renewal applications, will be disseminated by the parking coordinators after the meeting.
The Parking and Transportation Office will provide more information on this multiyear plan in September on the News Office web site and in MIT Tech Talk. Information on MIT's 50 percent MBTA pass subsidy program, shuttles or other alternative transportation choices are available online or at the office in Room E32-105.
