Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will be the soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, Aug. 5 when the annual trip to Tanglewood isscheduled.
Sponsored by the Association of MIT Retirees, the overnight trip is open to all members of the community. The trip also features a stop at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge and a visit to Shelburne Falls on the way back to Cambridge.
Andre Previn will conduct the Sunday program with selections from Mozart, Strauss, Haydn and his own "Diversions," commissioned in 1999 by the Vienna Philharmonic. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will sing two of Mozart's concert arias and orchestral songs by Strauss in her first appearance at Tanglewood in 16 years.
The trip leaves Cambridge at 8 a.m. on Aug. 5 and returns in the late afternoon on Aug. 6. In addition to deluxe motorcoach, the price includes shed seating at Tanglewood, admission to the Rockwell Museum, and overnight accommodations (including dinner and breakfast) at the Williams Inn in Williamstown. Tour cost is $229 per person (double), $225 (triple) or $279 (single).
