CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Fifteen MIT buildings on the north and west sections of campus suffered a power failure Thursday when an NStar-operated transformer that services North Cambridge failed at 11:30 a.m.
Workers in Buildings W11, W59, W89, W92, NW10 NW14, NW17, NW20, NW22, NW61, NW62, N42, N51, N52 and N57 were sent home for the remainder of the day. Power was restored by 2:00 p.m.
Electrical service was restored to Building NE43 (545 Technology Square) and normal operations resumed Thursday morning at the Laboratory for Computer Science, the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and other MIT offices located in the building.
NE43 was closed Monday night after an electrical feeder malfunctioned and electrical power was shut down. The power was restored late Wednesday afternoon.
