Volunteers sought for Earth Day cleanup along Charles

The annual Earth Day cleanup along the Charles River will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 9am-noon. Sponsored by the Charles River Watershed Association and the Massachusetts Community Water Watch, the cleanup takes place on both the Boston and Cambridge sides of the river.

MIT volunteers are welcome, and can meet at the Hatch Shell along the Esplanade or phone (617) 747-4409 for information on specific sites for the cleanup. Volunteers are encouraged to dress casually. They will receive a free T-shirt and are invited to attend a party in Herter Park in Brighton following the cleanup. The MIT student group SAVE (Share a Vital Earth) has formed a team to participate in the Earth Day cleanup.

MIT's Environmental Programs Task Force will have a booth in Lobby 10 on April 18 and 20 to provide information about the Institute'sefforts to make the campus more environmentally sustainable.

The task force is now organizing a group of recycling liaisons representing departments or areas at MIT to provide a more personal and local connection to environmental efforts. For more information or to volunteer, send e-mail.
