Matt T. Yourst won a photo contest in 8.03 (Physics III) with this composition of objects related to vibrations and waves. Mr. Yourst, a sophomore in electrical engineering and computer science, submitted both a photo and a hologram of his composition, which relates to his take-home experiment in the course. He earned a prize of $200 and a copy of On the Surface of Things, by Research Scientist Felice Frankel and George Whitesides. The winning photograph in the 'bubble' category was taken by Justin Mazzola Paluska, Vladimir Fleurima and Christina Roussel; HyungBin Son received $100 for his runner-up entry. Photos were judged by Ms. Frankel; Professor Thomas Greytak of physics who has taught the course for many years; and Professor Wolfgang Ketterle of physics, who taught the course last fall.
