Provost Mark S. Wrighton recently announced that Professor Alan Brody, head of the music and theater arts section and professor of theater arts, has been awarded the Class of 1960 Fellowship for a two-year term.
The award recognizes Professor Brody's leadership in teaching and his innovative contributions to undergraduate education, particularly in theater arts. A grant of $40,000 to help advance educational initiatives accompanies this fellowship.
According to Dean Philip S. Khoury of the School of Humanities and Social Science, "Alan Brody has built at MIT a first-rate undergraduate program in theater arts that is attracting more and more students and is beginning to have wide visibility in the New England area and beyond. " He is also a distinguished playwright whose plays have been performed across the United States to critical acclaim. They include Greytop in Love (1992), The Auditor (1990), The Company of Angels (1990), One on One (1988-89) and Invention for Father and Sons (1986-88).
Professor Brody has been professor of theater and director of theater arts at MIT since 1988 and has been head of the music and theater arts section since 1990. He received his BFA, MA and PhD degrees from Columbia University. Among the many prizes Professor Brody has received are the Eisner Award and the Lois and Richard Rosenthal Award in Playwriting.
