MIT has been ranked as the top university in the world in the latest QS World University Rankings. This marks the fourth straight year in which the Insitute has been ranked in the No. 1 position.
The full 2015-16 rankings — published by Quacquarelli Symonds, an organization specializing in education and study abroad — can be found at topuniversities.com. QS rankings are based on research quality, graduate employment, teaching quality, and an assessment of the global diversity of faculty and students.
MIT was also ranked the world’s top university in 11 of 36 disciplines ranked by QS, including all six in the “engineering and technology” category: architecture; computer science; chemical engineering; civil and structural engineering; electrical and electronic engineering; and mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing engineering.
QS also ranked the Institute as the world’s best university in chemistry; economics; linguistics; materials sciences; and physics and astronomy.
The Institute ranked among the top five institutions worldwide in another five QS disciplines: accounting and finance (2), art and design (4), biological sciences (4), earth and marine sciences (5) and mathematics (4).
Rounding out the top five universities in the QS world ranking were Harvard University, Cambridge University, Stanford University, and Caltech.
