MIT paper wins award at International Conference on Engineering Design

Alumnus Michael Pasqual and professor Olivier de Weck win ‘Reviewers’ Favorite’ award
An MIT paper co-authored by Michael Pasqual SM ‘10 and associate professor Olivier de Weck won a "Reviewers’ Favorite" award at the International Conference on Engineering Design 2011 (ICED'11), held this week in Copenhagen, Denmark. The bi-annual conference was titled "Impacting Society through Design" and drew 650 participants.

The winning paper, "Multilayer Network Model for Analysis and Management of Change Propagation," describes a method for integrated analysis, management and visualization of the relationship between technical components (product layer), change requests (process layer), and engineers and managers (people layer) in the design of complex software-enabled, electro-mechanical products. The paper received a high score of 89 out of 100 points in the review process and is based on Pasqual’s 2010 master’s thesis, done jointly between the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Technology and Policy Program (TPP), for which he shared the 2010 TPP Best Thesis Award with Ellie Ereira.
