The MIT community and Cambridge residents can set their alarm clocks for an earlier workout. MIT Recreation’s auxiliary facility, Alumni Pool and Wang Fitness Center (Building 57), has expanded its opening time to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Located just a few blocks from the Kendall Square T station, adjacent to the Stata Center (Building 32), Alumni/Wang is a convenient health and wellness option for students, faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, affiliates, local corporations, and friends in the area.

To celebrate the new hours, MIT Recreation hosted two weeks of giveaways, free breakfast, and free group exercise classes. Door prizes to the first 50 visitors at Alumni/Wang kicked off a celebration Monday, August 3, and by 8 a.m. that morning, 50 early birds had smiling faces to accompany their new branded toiletry bags. Both members and guests enjoyed coffee and oatmeal while sharing in post-workout conversation, and a range of participants worked up a sweat in group exercise classes such as HIIT, Barre and BollyX.

As the academic year begins, the earlier opening means more time for recreation. Alumni/Wang’s Group Exercise Studio will be a primary location for more than 30 classes this fall, while Alumni Pool will highlight aquatic instructional programs such as Efficient Freestyle, Efficient Swimming, and Women-Only Swim. For those on-the-go, there are free weights, strength training, and cardio machines.

Students and MIT Recreation members have access to both the Zesiger Center and Alumni/Wang, as well as outdoor fields, indoor and outdoor tracks, and more. Temporary pass options are available for visitors or guests looking for more flexibility. With a focus on creating more health and wellness opportunities for the community, MIT Recreation is excited to hear members rejoice, “Finally! Morning hours at Alumni/Wang.”

Hours for Alumni Pool and Wang Fitness Center throughout the year are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. The facility is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, please visit mitrecsports.com.
