Enhancements to Jack Barry Field unveiled

Thanks to countless hours of work by the MIT Facilities team — led by Assistant Department Head and Director of Facilities and Operations Dan Martin — Jack Barry Field underwent a significant renovation, highlighted by the installation of a new turf field surface. This Saturday afternoon, Oct. 1, prior to the MIT field hockey team’s New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) conference game against Springfield College, the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) will conduct a celebration, unveiling the new facility enhancements.

In addition to the new playing surface, the upgrade included a new lighting system, a pedestrian walkway connecting Jack Barry Field to the rest of DAPER’s outdoor athletic facilities, as well as a brand new, portable press box.

A video tour of the new facility, led by Dan Martin, can be seen through the MIT Athletics website: http://www.mitathletics.com/sports/w-fieldh/2011-12/videos/copy_%285%29_of_M2U00069.flv
