IS&T releases new version of TSM backup client

TSM 6.1 supports Mac OS X 10.6 and Windows 7.

Information Services and Technology (IS&T) has released version 6.1 of Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), the backup/archive client from IBM. This version of TSM supports Mac OS X 10.6 and Windows 7.

Who should upgrade

Windows: IS&T recommends the upgrade for all Windows users of TSM, including those running Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server, XP Professional SP2, Vista, or Windows 7.

Macintosh:
IS&T recommends the upgrade for Macintosh users of TSM running Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 on PowerPC or Intel machines.

Please note that TSM 6.1 does not support Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier versions.

Known issues

Windows:
The 64-bit Windows client will be released at a later date.

Macintosh:
TSM 6.1 supports Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) with the exception that system files in the HFS-compressed format are restored as uncompressed.

Windows and Macintosh: For scheduled backups to occur, your computer must be ON and not in sleep mode.

Administrators of win.mit.edu containers may opt-in to the software install via the win.mit.edu Deployment Opt-In/Out Management page [Certificates required].
