Ed Akerley, an environment, health and safety manager in the Department of Facilities, is a U.S. Coast Guard reservist who has been called into active duty to help with the oil-spill relief efforts. He is currently serving as the safety officer for LaFourche Parish in Louisiana.

Akerley recently described his experiences in an interview published on the official website of the Deepwater Horizon Response.
