MIT to host Chinese ambassador

Zhou to address MIT China Forum Tuesday

MIT is honored to host a visit by Zhou Wenzhong, the Chinese ambassador to the United States. As a featured speaker at the MIT China Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 10, Zhou will lecture on "China's Development and China-U.S. Relations."

"At MIT, we work at the frontier of knowledge and innovation to invent the future, and the path along the frontier increasingly engages colleagues in China," said MIT President Susan Hockfield. "MIT is privileged to welcome Ambassador Zhou at a time when faculty and students across our campus seek broader and deeper engagement with China."

This year marks three decades of U.S.-Chinese diplomatic relations. Appointed in 2005, Ambassador Zhou has played an active role in fostering a productive relationship between the nations for half of that period. His 15 years of service within the United States includes roles as deputy consul general in Los Angeles and Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Washington.

Founded in May 2008, the MIT China Forum is a quarterly event organized by the MIT-China Strategy Group, which identifies areas for exploration and collaboration between the Institute and China. Previous forums have examined China's economic transformation, R&D manufacturing in China and the competitiveness of Chinese enterprises.

President Hockfield will open the Forum at 3:30 p.m. in Huntington Hall, Room 10-250. For additional information, contact Victoria Palay at 617-253-8924 or via e-mail at palay@csail.mit.edu.

The MIT-China Forum lectures will continue on a regular basis. Please visit the MIT-China Forum web site for information about upcoming talks.
