Student injured in small lab explosion

At approximately 5:55 pm on Wednesday, June 11, a small explosion confined to a laboratory in MIT's Building 16 occurred. One injury has been confirmed. An MIT graduate student was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

MIT's Environment, Health and Safety Office, MIT Police and the Cambridge Fire Department were on site last night assessing the situation.

The Cambridge Fire Department is completing its investigation, and laboratory cleanup is under way. The lab is expected to return to service today.
