Sunday carnival, parade celebrate diversity in Cambridge

Traffic, parking around Kendall and Central Squares to be affected

The 15th Annual Cambridge Carnival International will take place in Kendall Square on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. A parade through Cambridge begins at 1 p.m.

Both traffic and parking near the site and along the parade route will be affected. Alternate routes will be necessary that day.

The festival site is located in Kendall Square on Main Street between Albany Street and Broadway, and on the Broadway side of Ames Street.

The parade's route will span 1.5 miles, passing through River Street in Cambridgeport, Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square, and Main Street in Kendall Square.

The celebration features ethnic foods, exotic arts and crafts, steel drums, dancing, and activities for children. Festival artists include Zili Roots (African), Hot 8 Brass Band (New Orleans Jazz), Samba Tremeterra of the Brazilian Cultural Center, (Brazilian) and Tropical Fire (Reggae and Soca).

The Cambridge Carnival is free and open to the public and can be accessed via public transportation. Do not plan to drive!
