VoIP pilot underway

Information Services and Technology is running a pilot program using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to provide telephone services via the MIT network.

VoIP would not replace existing phone service options at MIT but would coexist with them, providing members of the MIT community with more choice. VoIP offers both convenience and customization and is a key next-generation communication technology.

The pilot program began in March and currently has more than 400 participants. After reviewing the findings, IS&T will determine its next steps in rolling out VoIP at MIT. Anyone with questions about the pilot or planned service should e-mail voip-pilots-support@mit.edu.
