Immerman promoted to dual post by Benedict, Curry

Stephen Immerman has been promoted to senior associate dean for student life and executive director of Enterprise Services, effective July 1.

The announcement was made Wednesday, June 4 by Dean for Student Life Larry Benedict and Executive Vice President John Curry. Immerman has been director of Enterprise Services in Curry's office since 1999.

In his new role, Immerman will continue to lead the departments of Audio Visual Services, MIT Card Services, Copy Technology Centers, Endicott House, and Parking and Transportation. He will assume additional responsibility for the Campus Activities Complex, Dining Services, and the emerging program for the common space in the Stata Center. He will continue to serve as co-chair of the Task Force on Fraternities, Sororities and Independent Living Groups.

In addition, he will coordinate business development initiatives across the Student Life office, focusing on marketing and customer service. He will serve as liaison for a variety of Student Life initiatives to Resource Development, Facilities, the Office of the Treasurer, and the Office of the Executive Vice President.

In making the joint announcement, Benedict and Curry said:

"Steve is uniquely qualified for this newly created position, and it is a terrific opportunity for him and for the Institute. His Student Life and business credentials, in concert with the breadth of his long career at MIT, position him well for this new endeavor. Furthermore, Steve is an alumnus of MIT's Leader to Leader Program, which illustrates MIT's investment in its employees for both their development and for the future of the Institute."

Immerman, a 1975 graduate of SUNY-Potsdam, has been at MIT for 24 years. Prior to that, he was assistant director of student activities at the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1977 to 1979. He earned the M.S. and Ed.S. from SUNY-Albany in 1977.
