The Division of Bioengineering and Environmental Health (BEH) has administered research awards to 22 students have received research awards since last summer. The awards consist of stipends awarded to undergraduates on a competitive basis to support research in bioengineering.
For summer 2000, the award recipients were Christopher J. Bettinger, a freshman in chemical engineering and biology with a minor in BEH from Lake Jackson, TX; Benson Fu, a senior in electrical engineering and computer science (EECS) from Lexington,KY; Juyong Kim, a senior in chemical engineering from Seoul, Korea; Wan Chieh Lee, a sophomore in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from Flushing, NY; Tetsuya Matsuguchi, a sophomore in chemistry and biology with a minor in BEH from Saitama-ken, Japan; and Jose Manuel Otero, a junior in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from Greenwich, CT.
The award recipients for fall 2000 were Samantha Hess, a senior in biology with a minor in BEH from Midlothian, VA; Eric Jonas, a sophomore in brain and cognitive sciences from Boise, ID; Casey Mathison, a junior in chemistry with a minor in BEH from Ha'iku, HI; Kristin Niece, a senior in materials science and engineering from Covington, KY; and Yuri Shona Pek, a senior in materials science and engineering with a minor in BEH from Singapore.
For spring 2001, awards went to Lara Abaschian, a senior in materials science and engineering from Gainesville, FL; Shogo Miyagi, a sophomore in chemistry from Honolulu; Faisal Reza, a junior in biology and EECS with a minor in BEH from the Bronx, NY; ChiaoChun Wang, a junior in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from San Jose, CA; and Julie Watts, a junior in chemical engineering with a minor in biology and BEH from Baltimore.
The awardees for summer 2001 are the late Julia Carpenter, a sophomore in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from Houston; Megan Colpitts, a sophomore in biology from Manalapan, NJ; Melissa Horoschak, a junior in biology with a minor in BEH from Ringtown, PA; Phillip Mahdjoob, a junior in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from Poway, CA; Jeannette Stephenson, a junior in EECS from Little Rock, AR; and David Yin, a sophomore in chemical engineering with a minor in BEH from Tyler, TX.
