Amtrak Acela train discounts available

The Travel Office has entered into an agreement with Amtrak Acela Express/Metroliner that offers discounts on the new high-speed train that runs between Boston and Washington, DC.

The contract, which applies to employees and incorporated affiliates of MIT for personal or business travel, includes a 30 percent discount off the regular one-way business-class fare and is only available through one of MIT's approved travel agencies (The Travel Collaborative or Navigant International). Discounts only apply for trips between Boston and certain cities -- New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington -- and between Washington and New York.

The full-price one-way peak weekday fare from Boston to Washington is $162; from Boston to New York, it is $120.

Business-class customers get a reserved seat with audio channels, laptop outlets, Railfone service and television monitors.

Anyone with questions about the MIT discount may call Ellen Sico at x3-3547.
