A fraternity and students at two dormitories have recently been cited for alcohol violations.
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) has banned alcohol at Alpha Tau Omega until February and fined the fraternity $250 for three alcohol-related violations on September 2.
The IFC Judicial Committee found the fraternity guilty of failing to close its Rush desk prior to serving alcohol at a rooftop event. The chapter pleaded guilty to having an unregistered event and serving alcohol without IFC certification.
The charges were leveled by committee chair Katherine Hardacre, a junior in biology, who witnessed the violations at the fraternity house at 405 Memorial Drive when leaving a Rush meeting at the Student Center around 4:15am.
Campus Police have also cited two dormitory students for alcohol violations observed in the past two weeks. On September 3, according to the Dean's Office, police confiscated beer that was in the refrigerator of an underage junior at New House.
On September 12, police got a noise complaint about a private party on the 24th floor of Tang Hall. Police went to the room, confiscated hard liquor and a keg of beer, and cited a 22-year-old student, the host, for providing alcohol to people under age 21.
The Dean's Office is investigating both incidents.
