The Dean's Office is investigating alcohol-related incidents at Alpha Epsilon Pi and Zeta Psi in which visiting underage students were hospitalized. Both were treated and released at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Shortly after the October 31-November 1 incident at AEPi (155 Bay State Road, Boston), the fraternity announced it would be alcohol-free pending results of the investigation.
The father of the 17-year-old female Boston University student made it a point to thank the AEPi members who helped his daughter, even though it exposed them to disciplinary action. "They cared about her and they looked after her," he said.
On November 8, an 18-year-old Wellesley College student passed out from drinking at Zeta Psi (233 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge). MIT police issued a citation to the fraternity for providing alcohol to an underage person. Campus Police said they found the unconscious young woman in the Windsor Street parking lot, where two Zeta Psi members were trying to help.
The incident ended a registered party where fraternity members checked IDs and banded the wrists of those over 21. The fraternity closed down the party at the request of police.
On Monday, alcohol charges against a member of Beta Theta Pi resulting from a July 17 incident at the fraternity house (119 Bay State Road, Boston) were continued without a finding in Roxbury District Court. An assault charge involving an unrelated previous incident was also continued. Both charges will be dropped if the student maintains a clean record for one year.
