The Dean's Office is investigating an unauthorized party at an MIT dormitory where a 20-year-old woman student from Simmons College was found ill but conscious at 1:30am last Saturday. The woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was treated and released.
"This incident is being treated very seriously by MIT," said a statement issued by spokesman Ken Campbell, director of the News Office. "MIT officials expect to take appropriate disciplinary action once the facts are clear. The party was not registered and was unauthorized under MIT's alcohol policy."
The woman had been found vomiting in a ladies' room at Baker House. People at the dormitory called Campus Police and reported the medical emergency.
In other alcohol-related news, the arraignment of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity was rescheduled for October 22 on charges of manslaughter and hazing in connection with the death from alcohol intoxication a year ago of freshman Scott Krueger, 18, of Orchard Park, NY.
Maria Durant, a defense lawyer representing the fraternity's national chapter, told a Suffolk Superior Court clerk magistrate on October 1 that she needed more time to get authorization to represent the local chapter.
"No individual was named in the indictment, so no individual has to appear," said Jim Borghesani, a spokesman for the Suffolk County district attorney.
