MIT President: Death of MIT student Scott Krueger is "a terrible tragedy"

Statement by MIT President Charles M. Vest, on being informed by Beth Israel Hospital Tuesday morning of the death of Scott Krueger, 18, of Orchard Park, NY, at 6:40 p.m. Monday night. Krueger had been in an alcohol-related coma since Friday night.

The death of Scott Krueger, a bright and talented young man, is a terrible tragedy. Our hearts go out to the Krueger family. We will offer and be available for whatever support we can provide to them. It is our great regret that we can do little to ease their profound pain and grief.

For Scott's fellow students, and the faculty and staff who had come to know him, this is a dreadful loss as well, and the MIT community will do all that we can to see that this kind of tragedy never happens here again.
