MIT inks partnership with Korean institute

MIT's Manufacturing Institute and the Korean Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) have signed an agreement that will result in research cooperation on advanced manufacturing technologies and technology transfer from the two institutions to industry.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on April 25 by President Sang-Kee Suh of KIMM and MIT President Charles M. Vest. Organizers for the KIMM-MIT Collaborative Research Center at MIT-- including Professor Nam Suh, head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Professor Jung-Hoon Chun of mechanical engineering (director and co-director of the Manufacturing Institute, respectively)--hope to have several projects underway by the end of the calendar year. Approximately 12 MIT researchers in mechanical engineering and materials science and engineering have proposed projects to be pursued with Korean partners.
